History Lesson

chaos, everything

canceled out,

thousands of velocities

thrive—

placid

the eye

turned,

sliced the first form.

The Peril of Travel

Back

from such a distance

to the same

dissonant chair,

to this precarious desk

between Scylla and Charybdis,

with the littered pyre

of selves in books

and clumsy scratchings of experience.

I begin the pruning:

underneath,

ashes.
